Something Different, Day 3 (final)
Here it is again, one last time. (Click here to see the three stages next to each other.) The changes are mostly at top and bottom - from the filtrum down and from the ears up (mostly just the hair up top). I had to redo the lower right, which I had been perfectly happy with, because some kind of flashing light fuss outside distracted me and my sleeve swiped across and erased it. Well, that's the essential problem of working this way in charcoal - you can get incredible subtly of values but the medium itself is fleeting no matter how much stuff you spray on it - on the sprays change it, too, mostly darkening everything.

Something Different, Day 2
Well, it's the same but different... The differences are mostly in the eyes, nose and brow but there was a little tweaking here and there in other places, too. Tomorrow: can I do something about that hair? I put it in quite enthusiastically with a darker, harder, compressed charcoal that will not be so easy to push about.

And Now For Something Completely Different...
Well, it's been a marvelous month of magic markers and quick draws, but I thought I'd take a break from the fast stroke and strong color and do some slower, more deliberate work in the grey/browns of charcoal. This was at least partly inspired by some ~25 year old drawings I've re-disovered while working (slowly) on getting the archives loaded on here. My plan was to keep working on the same drawing over the course of a week (posting each day's changes here), but now that I've started, I don't think it will take that long. I may just leave it, or may work on it for another day or two but I don't think it will take 7 days. Still, I like this change of pace and I think I will stick to charcoal, one way or another, for this week.

On My Own One Autumn
Not only was I nice enough to date this, I know I spent the whole day wandering around and drawing while visiting a friend in Binghampton, NY. I clearly remember some of the drawings of old buildings I made that same day, but I don't know if I did this before heading out or after I got back. The amazing thing is remembering how adamant I was about integrating drawing/artmaking into my life on a daily basis, sort of like this project, but not so specific.
